The portal into life is the Yoni, a Sanskrit word for the female genitalia and womb. In Hinduism, Yoni symbolizes generative power and the Goddess Shakti. This sacred portal deserves honor, nourishment, and care. Many cultures around the world have known this and despite all efforts to quiet, tame or shame the feminine, the traditional practices continued. Those of us women who were not taught these ancient traditions were not taught much of anything about how to care for our precious parts. We are mostly taught to disregard and cover up the discomforts and sensitivity of our vaginas. My clients are astounded at how they managed to live decades without knowing how to truly care for their pelvic anatomy and energy.
Taking care of your pelvic anatomy is as important as taking care of your neck and shoulders. Ancient cultural practices of Mexico, Central and South America, Korea and China have known the importance of pelvic care and bringing warmth along with healing plants to cleanse and nourish the womb. The practice of yoni steaming (also called vaginal or pelvic steaming) is becoming more known as women search for ways to relieve a myriad of pelvic concerns, including but not limited to, pelvic pain, infertility, menstrual imbalance and low libido. The need for pelvic care, to know and understand one’s body has popularized the practices of yoni steaming, as well as other holistic pelvic therapies.
If you want to read about the experience of a Yoni Steam, L+A’s Jenni Nagle had a full day at a Korean Spa where she had the Yoni Steam. You can read about her treatment here.

I first learned about womb care from Rosita Arvigo, ND. Rosita taught me the techniques of Maya Uterine/ Abdominal Massage which she learned from Don Elijio Panti, a Maya Shaman who healed many women throughout his 103 years of life. It made sense. We have emotional and physical tension in our pelvic muscles just as, if not more than anywhere in the body. As women, we also hold onto past hurts, trauma, stress and low self esteem in our pelvic anatomy. When the uterus is in proper position, as well as the surrounding organs, fascia and ligaments, blood, lymph, nerve and energy flow are uninhibited. Optimizing flow optimizes function. When you optimize the functions on your body, it is easier for the body to maintain homeostasis, in other words, balance and wellbeing.
Caring For The Pelvis
Caring for your pelvis is essential to your total well-being, Many women develop pelvic symptoms after childbirth, though they can occur at any time. Yoni steams increase circulation, as well as bring the healing qualities of herbs to the pelvis. Many discomforts and conditions of the pelvis can be treated with yoni steams and abdominal-pelvic massage.
