Elevating Advanced Aesthetics How This Instructor Is Shaping Future Estheticians

When it comes to advanced education in esthetics, Spectrum Advanced Aesthetics has built a reputation as one of the most respected institutions in the U.S. As a Diamond Sponsor with L+A, Spectrum continues to invest in the growth of medical + spa skincare professionals, offering both in-person and online courses designed to help estheticians stay ahead in a rapidly evolving industry.

Meet Natalie Williams, Spectrum Advanced Aesthetics Featured Professional

But the heart of Spectrum’s success lies in its educators—passionate professionals who not only teach but also inspire. One such educator is Natalie Williams, Spectrum’s Advanced Aesthetics Instructor and Phlebotomy Program Lead. With her unique blend of clinical expertise, compassion, and a love of teaching, Natalie embodies the spirit of what Spectrum stands for: education that empowers estheticians to thrive in the treatment room and beyond.

From Student to Educator

Natalie’s journey with Spectrum began as a student herself.

“I have taken their standard esthetician program, oncology esthetics, and their advanced program,” she explains. Those experiences not only gave her the skills to enter the industry but also cemented her connection to Spectrum’s community of educators and students.

Today, she’s come full circle—teaching in the Advanced Esthetics Program and leading the Phlebotomy Program, which she proudly rebuilt and expanded. “I’m responsible for teaching in the Advanced Esthetics Program, supporting student development in the classroom and clinic floor, and contributing to curriculum design. I rebuilt and now lead the Phlebotomy Program, which prepares students to become nationally certified and to add highly sought-after PRP to their treatment menu or work as a phlebotomist.”

Her transition from student to educator reflects the kind of long-term professional development Spectrum fosters. It’s not just about training for the job you want now—it’s about building a foundation for a career that can grow and evolve.

Spectrum Advanced Aesthetics – A Culture of Support and Growth

Ask Natalie what she loves most about her job, and she doesn’t hesitate.

“From day one, I’ve felt supported and truly part of the team. Mary is an incredible leader—she sets high expectations but never micromanages. She trusts us to own our work and is always available when we need guidance. Her humility and genuine desire to see others shine create a culture of collaboration and growth.”

That leadership style trickles down to the classroom. Spectrum’s emphasis on inclusion, respect, and collaboration shapes the way students experience their education. “Our team of educators and staff is dedicated to providing the best education possible. We’re deeply invested in each student’s success, working alongside them to help build a strong foundation for a lasting career. And our support doesn’t end at graduation—many alumni stay connected, seeking advice, mentorship, and even returning for treatments with our current students.”

Teaching Beyond Technique

Natalie’s favorite treatment to teach is microneedling—a modality that delivers transformative results and, in her words, “addresses so many skin concerns with real, lasting results.” But for her, the impact of teaching extends far beyond technical skills.

She emphasizes the importance of creating long-term treatment plans for clients. “Skin health is a journey, not a destination—when you craft a personalized, long-term treatment plan, you form a partnership where you and your client are committed to their skin care goals. In an industry flooded with quick fixes and trending treatments, you should focus on educating your client, setting up realistic expectations, creating a trusted relationship, and then providing beautiful results. That is what sets a great esthetician apart.”

That philosophy is mirrored in how she teaches consultations. For Natalie, consultations aren’t just clinical—they’re relational. “A consultation is just as much about forming a relationship as it is about understanding their skin concerns and goals. It goes beyond skin analysis; it’s about listening and appreciating the client’s concerns, lifestyle, and emotional relationship with their skin.”

Empowering Students with Home Care Knowledge

At Spectrum, education doesn’t stop in the treatment room. Home care recommendations are an integral part of the curriculum.

“A consistent skincare regimen is just as vital as the treatment plan, which is why we emphasize it throughout our Skin Analysis, Consultations, and Professional Skincare units. Students learn key ingredients, sample top-selling products from our store, and get hands-on guidance during all-school meetings where I spotlight one product—its benefits, ingredients, usage, and ideal client profile. Soon, every product will feature a quick-reference tag with all that essential info to support confident recommendations.”

This focus ensures graduates leave with not only the technical know-how but also the confidence to build long-term revenue through professional retail strategies.

The FACES Foundation: Education Meets Service

One of the most inspiring parts of Natalie’s career has been her work with the FACES Foundation, a Portland-based nonprofit that provides cleft palate and cleft lip surgeries in Peru.

Years ago, she was asked to offer makeup tips to patients who felt self-conscious about their scars. “My immediate response was, we can do so much more than that!”

Today, partnering with Spectrum and LightStim, Natalie provides microneedling and LED treatments free of charge for scar revision. “Many of our patients have been able to return, allowing me to continue their care and help them feel more confident in their skin.”

This work has become a family mission—her husband now serves on the foundation’s board, and her sons have joined the trips. The Williams family plans to return for their fourth trip in 2026.

Preparing Students for Today’s Challenges

Natalie acknowledges that new estheticians face a unique set of challenges entering today’s job market.

“With a constant stream of new products, treatments, trends, and conflicting philosophies, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or uncertain. On top of that, many clients now come in with their own research—some of it helpful, some of it misguided—so estheticians must be confident in their expertise, grounded in science and skin physiology, in order to educate and guide clients toward what truly benefits their skin.”

Spectrum prepares students to navigate these challenges by teaching the “why” behind the treatment. “Spectrum prepares students for the real world by teaching the core concepts behind every modality and treatment—not just brand-specific protocols. This approach empowers students to understand the science of what’s happening in the skin, so when they encounter new devices or technologies, new products or trends, they can feel confident in their knowledge to evaluate and assess their value to their clients.”

Diversity and Inclusion in Esthetics

One area Natalie is passionate about is teaching students how to treat skin of all ethnicities.

“Understanding how to treat skin of all ethnicities is not optional; it’s foundational. Every client, regardless of skin tone or heritage, deserves safe and effective care, and that is why understanding and respecting the nuances of all Fitzpatrick skin types is woven into every unit and modality we teach.”

Her goal is for every student to leave Spectrum with the knowledge and confidence to say: everyone is welcome, and everyone is worthy of excellent, personalized care.

The Importance of Continuing Education

The esthetics field evolves quickly, and Natalie is clear about what students need to succeed: a mindset of lifelong learning.

“Because the esthetics world is constantly evolving—with new technologies, treatments, and trends emerging all the time—continuing education becomes one of the most essential tools for long-term success. At Spectrum, we aim to build a strong foundation, and we also hope to instill a mindset of curiosity and growth, encouraging students to elevate their knowledge throughout their careers.”

She credits Spectrum’s leadership for modeling this. “Mary invests in her educators’ continuing education, sending them to conferences and classes, and she encourages each of them to work with their own clients and keep up their skills.”

The Future of Esthetics

Looking ahead, Natalie sees both opportunity and responsibility in the industry.

“The esthetics industry has always been dynamic and fast-paced, and with the developing world of AI, clients might feel its rapid responses and ease will be enough. But the esthetician’s personal touch remains irreplaceable. Physical skin analysis, intuitive care, and the ability to build genuine relationships will be more vital than ever. Each esthetician brings their own personality and spirit to the treatment room, creating a space where clients feel safe, seen, and supported. In a world of automation, human connection is what keeps clients coming back.”

Why Spectrum?

For skincare professionals considering Spectrum, Natalie’s advice is simple:

“Do it! If skin is your thing, Spectrum is your place.”
