L+A’s Thought Leaders of Modern Skincare – Francine Kagarakis

Francine Kagarakis Co-Founder & Chief International Officer, Lira Clinical

Some leaders build brands. Others build movements. Francine Kagarakis of Lira Clinical has done both—quietly, deliberately, and with a level of scientific rigor that has helped redefine what clinical skincare looks like on a global stage.

Francine Kagarakis doesn’t just lead with knowledge—she leads with intention. And as the first Thought Leader of Modern Skincare, she reminds us that the future of this industry is built where science, integrity, and humanity meet.

For Barry Eichner and Jenni Nagle of Lipgloss + Aftershave (L+A), this feature is deeply personal. They’ve known Francine for nearly a decade—learning beside her in classrooms, watching her teach with equal parts authority and curiosity, and witnessing firsthand how her role as one of the four co-founders of Lira Clinical has shaped the brand’s evolution. From the treatment room to the lab to international expansion, Francine has been a steady force behind Lira Clinical’s rise as a globally respected clinical skincare brand.

As the inaugural Thought Leader of Modern Skincare, Francine sets the tone for this editorial series: thoughtful leadership, science-forward decision-making, and a deep respect for the professionals who make this industry what it is.

An Accidental Beginning That Changed Everything

“I entered the skincare industry completely by accident,” Francine shares.

After teaching medical assisting courses for several years, Francine stepped away to focus on starting her family. During that time, her sister Metaxia asked her to temporarily cover a position at a dermatology clinic while she was away. The clinic specialized in medical aesthetics—an entirely new world for Francine.

“When she returned, I was unexpectedly offered a permanent position,” she explains. “That became the first time my sister and I worked together professionally. That single opportunity opened the door to an exciting new world and marked the true beginning of my journey into aesthetics.”

It’s a story that feels almost too serendipitous—but one that perfectly captures Francine’s path: rooted in medicine, shaped by education, and guided by curiosity.

The Moment It Became Real

For Francine, clarity didn’t arrive as a slow realization—it arrived all at once.

“The moment I realized this was what I was meant to build was when I saw our products on the assembly line at the lab,” she says. “In that instant, I felt an overwhelming sense of emotion—almost like the birth of something extraordinary.”

Seeing formulations she helped create come to life marked a turning point. It wasn’t just about products; it was about purpose.

“That same excitement still lives within me today. It’s the passion that continues to move us forward and drives our desire to share knowledge, innovation, and our vision with incredible people around the world.”

Where Her Energy Lives Now: Research, Development & What’s Next

Ask Francine what energizes her most right now, and the answer comes easily: Research and Development.

“The skincare industry is evolving at an incredible pace, with AI now playing a significant role in innovation and discovery,” she says. “I continue to enjoy sharing this knowledge with skincare professionals across the U.S. and around the world.”

Anyone who’s taken a class with Francine knows this excitement well.

“And while I’m known for occasionally getting too excited about an ingredient or getting a bit too technical during presentations,” she adds with a smile, “it comes from a genuine passion for education and progress.”

Bridging a Misunderstood Divide in the Industry

One of the most powerful insights Francine shares is her belief that the industry often misunderstands itself.

“I think one of the most misunderstood aspects of medical aesthetics and the professional spa industry is the belief that they are completely separate,” she explains. “In truth, they are deeply connected—both centered on the health of the skin and the correction and improvement of skin conditions.”

Clinical skincare, in her view, is the bridge.

“It supports the skin before, during, and after procedures, enhancing treatment outcomes while maintaining long-term skin health.”

And she’s clear about what truly matters.

“At its core, this industry isn’t about trends or quick fixes. It’s about real people, real skin, and real results—and providing solutions that respect the integrity of the skin over time.”

What Professionals Should Be Paying Attention To Now

If there is one thing that stands out about Francine is her ongoing quest to understand the medical + spa industry. She is constantly traveling the globe, monitoring all aspects of the industry – looking to understand what’s available.

Francine believes 2026 continues to be defined by one word: regeneration.

“Regeneration is a precise, multi-step biological sequence that includes inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling,” she explains. “Because the skin is a complex organ with multiple critical functions, each phase must be properly supported to restore not only appearance, but integrity and overall wellness.”

Today’s clients, she notes, are more educated than ever.

“They’re actively researching products and seeking out innovations backed by real science. This makes it increasingly important to communicate not just what a product does, but how and why it works at the cellular level.”

Clinical skincare, when done right, translates advanced science into results professionals and clients can trust.

The Real Opportunity in Skincare Right Now

Innovation alone isn’t enough—and Francine is clear about that.

“The biggest opportunity in the skincare industry for brands is to stay ahead of innovation while effectively delivering education, training, and marketing support to skincare professionals.”

When education lands, professionals win.

“When education is successfully delivered, skincare professionals are empowered to produce real, consistent results for their clients,” she says. “At that point, it becomes equally important for professionals to share and market their own success.”

Leadership, Instinct & Making Hard Decisions

When the path forward isn’t clear, Francine balances instinct with experience.

“The gut feeling isn’t random,” she explains. “It’s the result of years of observing patterns—what works, what doesn’t, how professionals respond, how skin behaves, and how the industry evolves.”

She believes deeply in trusting the process.

“Not every decision will be perfect, but every situation becomes a lesson. Growth doesn’t come from avoiding mistakes; it comes from learning quickly, adapting thoughtfully, and moving forward with intention.”

What Makes a Skincare Brand Truly Trustworthy

Trust, Francine says, is everything.

“Professionals invest not only their financial resources, but their time, reputation, and relationships with clients. Trust is the foundation of long-term partnerships.”

For her, credibility comes from reality—not hype.

“True trust is built when results come from real users and real skin—not filters, exaggerated claims, or unrealistic promises.”

Brands grounded in treatment-room experience understand skin on a deeper level—and professionals can feel that.

Redefining Success

Francine embodies the word success – she is one of the hardest workers that we see in the industry. Her tireless commitment to Lira Clinical has her constantly on the go. Traveling from one international trade show to another. She’ll go from IMCAS in Paris, where she’s meeting with international distributors, and then fly to Greece to work on Lira’s expansion there. She’s always on the go, yet stays connected and works to make an impact.

“At this point in my life, success is no longer measured only by growth or numbers,” Francine reflects. “Success is impact.”

Impact through teaching. Through mentoring. Through storytelling.

“If the experiences shared help others grow, feel less alone, or approach their work with renewed confidence—then that, to me, is success.”

Responsibility Beyond the Product

“I feel a deep responsibility to the practitioners who trust Lira Clinical,” Francine says. “They’re putting their reputation, their results, and their client relationships in our hands.”

That responsibility shows up in transparency, education, and integrity—and in listening.

“When a practitioner chooses Lira Clinical, it’s a partnership.”

Innovation With Professionals at the Center

Francine lights up when she talks about Purely Clinical—Lira Clinical’s immersive education events.

“In 2025, our VIP community became part of the development of a brand-new product: PDRN+ Serum,” she explains. “By providing prototypes and gathering real-time professional feedback, we were able to refine and perfect the formulation.”

That product—REGEN PDRN+ Serum—launches this spring.

And the innovation doesn’t stop there.

“In fall 2025, we were introduced to a biotechnology research company focused on advanced marine cellular research,” Francine shares. The result? A Marine Cellular Complex derived from wild salmon stem cell conditioned media (CM)—a breakthrough now integrated into the REGEN line.

“The results have exceeded our expectations,” she says. “Lira Clinical will be the first skincare brand to introduce this technology to the global aesthetic industry.”

Looking Ahead: The Future of Medical + Spa Skincare

Francine sees continued global growth—especially across Europe and Asia Pacific—alongside sustained demand for minimally invasive, results-driven treatments.

“Aesthetics is increasingly viewed not as a luxury, but as an essential component of wellness and long-term skin health,” she says.

What does she hope never changes?

“That integrity, education, and respect for the professional always remain at the core.”

Wisdom, Grounding & Gratitude

“I wouldn’t change a single thing,” Francine says when asked what she wishes she’d known earlier. Even mistakes—like the now-iconic MYSTIQ color—became meaningful lessons rooted in science, intuition, and timing.

The original Pantone color selected for the MYSTIQ line was designed in a lighter purple tone. However, when the labels arrived, the color was noticeably darker, almost burgundy. With the lab ready to fill the containers and a firm launch date in place, we made the decision to move forward with the darker color.

Years later, after conducting extensive research in Chios, Greece, we discovered something remarkable. The most potent mastiha resin richer in terpenes comes from the southern part of the island, where the soil carries a deep burgundy tone. At that moment, we realized the “mistake” had actually been a gift.

The MYSTIQ color was always the right color. What began as an error ultimately became a meaningful reflection of the science, the source, and the integrity behind the formulation. It was a powerful reminder that sometimes intuition, timing, and discovery align in ways we don’t immediately understand but ultimately serve the brand in the most authentic way.

What keeps her grounded?

“My faith. My family. Gratitude—for both the calm and the chaos.”
