We are living in a time of unprecedented access—access to information, to trends, to techniques, to people. But in aesthetics, access does not equal expertise. And unfortunately, our industry is paying the price.
As a licensed professional, educator, business owner, and long-time student of skin health, I’ve watched a concerning trend emerge over the past few years: everyone is teaching. Everyone is selling a method. Everyone is launching a course. But not everyone should be.

Awaken Esthetics Retreat
August 15th – August 19th, 2025
Skamania Lodge, Stevenson, WA.
Awaken Esthetics Retreat an immersive three-day program designed exclusively for motivated estheticians seeking to elevate their career and grow their business. This all-encompassing retreat blends personal development, business development, and cutting-edge esthetic education into a transformative experience.
The truth is, aesthetics has become saturated with unqualified educators—individuals who lack the experience, integrity, and passion to lead the next generation of professionals. This isn’t just a matter of preference or ego; it’s a matter of safety, results, and the future of our field.
Experienced Esthetic Educators
Many of the most experienced estheticians, nurses, and medical professionals no longer have the bandwidth or incentive to teach. Those who do teach are often burnt out by an industry that rewards popularity over proficiency. As a result, education has become watered down, generic, and in many cases, flat-out incorrect.
When you learn from someone with true experience, you’re not just learning a treatment— you’re gaining access to thousands of hours behind the treatment table. You’re learning what actually works, how to pivot when things don’t go as planned, how to consult ethically, and how to protect your license and your client at the same time. That kind of insight isn’t taught in a book. And it’s definitely not downloadable.
Passion Is the Differentiator
True educators don’t just teach—they mentor. They live for those lightbulb moments when a student finally understands skin histology, or masters the rhythm of a treatment, or builds the confidence to raise their prices because they finally understand their value. Passion is what drives educators to stay current, to stay curious, and to pour into others even when it’s not glamorous.
We need more of that. We need more real professionals stepping forward to share what they’ve lived—not just what they’ve learned. We need more students who are hungry to go deeper—not just faster.
How Do You Find the Right Teacher?
Ask questions. Look at credentials—but also ask about their hands-on experience. How many years have they been in practice? Who trained them? Do they still see clients? Do they stay updated with research and regulations? What are their student success stories?
Look for educators who value science and intuition, who teach with heart and structure, and who are willing to say “I don’t know” rather than give you a confident, incorrect answer.
Most importantly, invest in learning from people who’ve done what you’re trying to do. Not influencers. Not TikTok trends. Not anonymous AI bots.
Our Industry Deserves Better
Aesthetics is not a trend. It is a science, an art, and a career that deserves respect. As professionals, we carry real responsibility—often with little regulation or oversight to support us. That’s why we have to be the ones to raise the standard.
Let’s hold ourselves—and our educators—to a higher level. Let’s seek out wisdom, not just information. Let’s mentor with integrity, learn with discernment, and never stop demanding better for ourselves and our clients.
The next generation of professionals is watching. Let’s make sure they’re learning from the very best!
